"HIGHLIGHTS" OF THE RUGBY RCC AGM - 24th JANUARY

Club Time Trial Programme: Roland Elsdon explained the problems caused by the work on the A45-Ryton island which is scheduled to continue until mid-June. Various options were discussed (including total cancellation of all events which used any section of the A45). It was finally agreed that we would proceed with events which only involved use of the A45 up to the Memorial Island, while Roland was given the authority to find alternative courses for the 4 events which would be unavailable (on the A45 contra-flow section) - subject to CTT approval. Members were asked to communicate with Roland with their preferences for alternative courses.
Acara sponsorship is to continue, albeit at a reduced level in 2005. The Treasurer pointed out that we should be more critical in terms of subsiding events which were not directly related to cycling, while retaining our policy of offering club clothing at discounted prices. Sponsorship of the Open 10 would continue unaffected.
2005 Events - 17th April - Hilly 13-mile Open at Priors Marston, starting at 10.00 Sunday; 30th July - Open 10 at Princethorpe again using K10/10C, starting at 2 pm Saturday. We were working on the assumption that the work on the A45-Ryton island would be completed by then.
Treasurer reminded riders that they could pay £10 up-front for season's club events. Also Carol Aires had appealed for riders to pay £2 up-front for post time trial refreshments (meeting amazed as to how Carol made £35 profit from this activity last season!).
Club Dinner - Stuart Sherriff reported that numbers were now up to 70. He was concerned that many people had sent back the whole form (instead of the tear-off slip) and would forget that the time was 7.00 for 7.30. It was also confirmed that Bryan Steel would be our guest of honour.
Discussion on revised points system (predictably) did not reach a decision. (See discussion on points system for the arguments). Most favoured version was to drop 6 events (as opposed to 4, or even zero as at present), with some favouring 20 points max instead of 30, bigger gaps at the top (ie. GP style), or more/less than 5 for a DNF. It was agreed to take these thoughts to the next Committee meeting (Monday 7th Feb) where a decision would be made (perhaps).
The item on the Child Protection Policy did not reach the expected conclusion. This has been forced upon us by the CTT, requiring the club to adopt a new policy document (Click here to see the proposed policy document). The practical difficulty of applying these procedures at events triggered an interesting discussion, particularly as Phil Gatley, with experience of implementing similar measures with the Athletics Club, suggested possible alternatives. The rule change proposal was held in abeyance and Phil agreed to advise the Committee in making a decision.
