News arising from the recent Committee meeting

• The most significant news was that Acara are in the process of closing, meaning that we no longer have a club sponsor. Although the company was trading successfully there were other reasons for the decision outside the control of Acara. Rugby RCC was in the process of reviewing charges, but this has meant us having to look at the numbers a little more critically. These are the new charges, with some of the reasons:
  • Membership - Full membership for 2007 will increase from £7.50 to £10. The rate for unwaged will increase from £2.50 to £5.00
  • Evening Time Trial entry fees - Apart from our own problems the levy we have to pay to the CTT has gone up from 20p per ride to 50p per ride. This has given us little choice but to increase our entry fees from 50p on the night to £1. Private entry fees will increase from £1 to £1.50. Payment for the season's events (24) increases from £10 to £17.
  • Refreshments - the cost of tea/coffee on the night will increase from 10p to 15p on the night, or from £2 to £3 for the season.

   

• Rugby RCC Reliability Trial - There were only 18 riders, but the event made a small profit, mainly due to the catering. Mike Bloom is offering to organise another event on Sunday 18th March 2007. He is appealing for volunteers to run other events, as the format seems popular.

• Annual Dinner & Prize Presentation - Friday 9th February 2007 at Rugby Lions Club. Cost will be £18
• Annual General Meeting - Monday 19th February - venue to be decided
• Club Clothing - Orders have closed now, so if you've missed out you will have to hope that you can buy what you want from the extra items we've ordered for stock. We have fixed on a design - exactly as shown a few weeks ago on this website (Click here for a preview) except there will be no sponsor's name, for obvious reasons. The old version has been around since 1995, so the new design will incorporate the present colours, but with a modern logo (see website header above). As we said last month, it's too soon to give an accurate cost, but whatever happens the committee have decided that prices will be no greater than those charged by the supplier, less a 20% discount. We will honour that pledge, with the 20% paid from club funds, but this is a one-off since in future, without a club sponsor, we have to make the books balance. As we said previously, the cost of new clothing is not be affected by the decision to change the design, since the club is paying for the setting-up charge. Current prices have been fixed for a couple of years, so there has to be a significant increase. We still have some of the old stock remaining (see clothing list on website) and we will be selling these off at 50% of the prices shown.
