4-Hour Time Trial 2009
Comment: I created these extra categories in response to requests some years ago. I'm not sure what they add to the event, but perhaps that depends whether a rider does well, or is disappointed. The handicaps are derived from our club 25-mile handicaps, since I've found that riders typically average about 82% of the speed in the 4-hour as they do in a 25. That's the only form I have to go on. If a rider hasn't ridden a 25 then I have to base it on a 10-mile time, so it gets a little tenuous. Thus the handicap distance is added to the actual distance to obtain the total. The Vet on Standard distances are based on my own calculations, following correspondence with the VTTA, since no official standards exist for 4-hours. The targets are difficult to achieve and that can be demotivating. Should we retain these categories, with or without some modification? Your feedback would be useful. LEB
